Monthly Market Update – August 2025

Gas and electricity prices declined in value over the course of August with the front season gas contract dropping by a considerable 8.2p/th (0.28p/kwh) from start to close. Momentum did swing the other way towards the back end of the month for a short period of time with premium being built back into prices, but values inevitably fell again as we approached September.

June was very much seen as a month of two halves for electricity and gas prices. Both commodities traded within a narrow range during the first half of the month before taking a significant downward shift for a few consecutive sessions around the mid-month mark.

Gas and electricity prices traded within a narrow range over the course of May as markets lacked any clear direction amid ever changing events over in the Middle East. Gas prices lost slight value over the course of the month whereas electricity prices saw relatively small increases.
