It’s a sunny Friday afternoon, and while most would be winding down, I’m too excited about what’s happening at CUB to sit still — so here I am, writing about it.
Just a couple of weeks ago, we launched our first CMU (Capacity Market Unit) with a group of early customers now registered to receive payment from October 2025 for 12 months. They’re earning guaranteed revenue by participating in the UK Capacity Market — all made possible by CUB’s fully managed service. But what does that actually mean?
Earning revenue for just being available… With one of our customers already set to earn over £11,000, it’s a welcome boost. Here’s how we made it happen — and what’s next:
Here’s what we’ve done so far:
- Customer Registration: We set up CUB’s CMU and registered our first customers to deliver flexibility to NESO.
- Load Reduction Proof: We submitted data showing that each customer could reduce demand for a selected 30-minute window — chosen by us to make it easy.
- Revenue Lock-in: We purchased the capacity volume and declared the total revenue — transparently sharing how much each customer would earn.
- Next Steps: Over winter (Oct–April), we’ll complete three 30-minute test events — pre-agreed and low-impact.
- Stress Event Preperation: While the Capacity Market has never been used “in anger”, we’ve agreed protocols in case of a real system stress call (with 4 hours’ notice).
We’ve already secured 1.4 MW for our next CMU starting March 2026 — but we’re actively onboarding more sites now.
If your site can flex its demand or generate power, you could be earning guaranteed annual revenue. Let’s have a chat.
