A Time to Offer Hope
The Green Team finished the year with some more caring, sharing activities. When many of us were preoccupied with Christmas shopping and preparations, our staff members were looking for opportunities to offer their support to a good cause. In this case, we had the opportunity to support The Trussell Trust.
The Trussell Trust operates a network of over 400 foodbanks throughout the UK. Offering food and support to those in crisis, with around 13 million people living below the poverty line, this service is needed 365 days a year, not just at Christmas. The Trussell Trust give more than food though, they offer people hope and restore their faith. Often just knowing that there are people you can trust and who understand your plight can help to remove the shame and embarrassment that some may feel about using a foodbank. Like most charities they are extremely reliant on the generosity of others whether that comes in the form of time or a donation. Whether dealing with the collection or unloading and shelving donations, there are many ways to offer help to this charity.
So how could we not support this amazing cause? Early December our colleagues Kathy and Becky helped with a collection from Tesco for the Trussell Trust foodbank based at Centenary Baptist Church, March. In total 1.178 tonnes of food were collected over a period of two days as well as a donation of £245. Fortunately the generous people in March keep on giving as in one day almost 0.5 tonnes of food was given out a few days after this collection. The need continues to be great. As long as there is a need for help, the CUB Green Team remain willing to help support as much as they can. We look forward to 2017 and another fun-filled year of giving back to our local community!
